Description: Specifically engineered to meet the demands of opto-electronic lens and appliance applications, new Terrapin® G Nano-Hardcoats from Tekra raise the bar for surface durability while retaining substrate flexibility and optical clarity.
On polyester film substrate, Terrapin G achieves pencil hardness of 3H on the JIS 9401 test (750g of Pencil force) and 4H on the ASTM D3363 test (300g of pencil force). On polycarbonate, Terrapin G achieves HB pencil hardness on either test. All results represent significant improvements over commonly available hardcoats.
Abrasion resistance is similarly improved, approximately 20% better than other hardcoats based on Taber Abraser testing conducted at Tekra's laboratories in suburban Milwaukee.
Terrapin G Nano-Hardcoats draw on nanotechnology. Specifically, tiny nanomaterial particulates allow creation of a coating that is at once extremely hard, flexible and optically transparent. Terrapin G is a superior product for flat panel displays, PDA and cell phone lenses, signature verification windows, LCDs and OLEDs, or other high-use opto-electronic applications."
Plus, with superb resistance to common household and industrial cleaning chemicals as well as to oils and food products, Terrapin G meets the needs of appliance manufacturers for touch panels and nameplates. Terrapin G also exhibits superior adhesion to sputter coated metals and oxides.
Terrapin G polyester is available in web widths up to 60 inches in 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10 mil thicknesses. In polycarbonate, Terrapin G is available in web widths up to 48" and thicknesses of 7, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mil. Custom slitting and sheeting is readily available through Tekra, and Terrapin G can also be configured with interleaving, mask on second surface, or mask on both surfaces.
Tekra Corporation, based in New Berlin, Wisconsin, is a leading manufacturer of proprietary hardcoated and print-receptive plastic films, as well as a full-capability plastic film converter. Through its alliance partners dupont Teijin Films, Bayer Films Americas and 3M, Tekra also provides a complete range of plastic films and adhesives to printers and manufacturers worldwide. |
