Description: Tarnishing of sterling silver is a well-known problem in silver industry. Tarnishing is mostly caused by airborne sulfur which reacts with the surface of a silver object and generates black silver sulfide, Ag2S. In addition, many other chemical compounds have also been found on tarnished surfaces.
Beneq has developed a robust and unique nSILVER® technique for protection of silver objects. Protection is achieved by coating the silver objects with a thin, transparent, pinhole free, sapphire-like coating (SLC) utilizing the latest developments in nanotechnology. Beneq provides a turnkey solution with the nSILVER® protective coating system TFS 500.
The most important characteristics of protective anti-tarnish layer are: • sufficient protection against tarnishing • invisible film
Sufficient invisible protection against tarnishing can only be achieved by having a uniform and pin-hole free coating over entire silver object. nSILVER® is superior to other techniques in this respect. nSILVER technology
nSILVER® is based on surface controlled reactions of certain chemicals in vapour phase. These vapours are able to react with silver surface of any shape and in any direction. The vapour molecules are very small and able to penetrate even the narrowest grooves leaving no pin-holes on the surface. The process is an economical and flexible batch process, being capable to handle hundreds or even thousands of silver objects, including jewelry, coins, medals, and other silverware. The coated objects pass tarnishing tests based on hydrogen sulfide (H2S) including the standardized accelerated tarnishing test ISO 4538. |
